2006 Vouvray de GautierWe found this wine at a Vouvray tasting dinner at Clio in Boston. If you aren’t familiar with Clio, it’s the kind of restaurant you only visit when someone else is paying. It’s not cheap. That’s why it was an interesting match for wines from Vouvray, because most are less than $20 per bottle.

The Vouvrays we tasted, which are all made with 100% Chenin Blanc (whites) from France’s Loire Valley, were awesome with the food and this one stood out. The Vouvray de Gautier is off-dry, which means it’s somewhere between sweet and dry. It’s medium to full in body with flavors of apricot, pear and honey.

Couples: this is the perfect wine if your opinions split between dry and sweet. It has a little something for both of you and is also a great cocktail wine.

This wine pairs with chicken or fish, but is also perfect with Chinese, Thai or Indian food.
