Santa Barbara County, California - $16
Last night we hosted our very first “Crash Course Wine Seminar” at Downtown Wine & Spirits. It was an educational battle royale between French and California wines. Of the eight wines poured, this Chardonnay from Santa Barbara County was a real crowd pleaser.
The grapes for the 2006 Geode Chardonnay are grown responsibly, with minimal amounts of synthetic fertilizers. This is a fancy way of saying it’s nearly organic. The delicious juice is aged in new oak barrels which makes the wine very well balanced.
When compared to it’s French cousin, from Burgundy, this Southern California wine has more body, it’s richer and creamier with bright tropical fruit flavors. This wine is easy to drink solo, but shines when paired with food.
Drink with Grilled Gioia Burrata Cheese Bruschetta, Turmeric Cured California Yellowtail or Chicken and Santa Barbara Pistachio Meatballs.
