Touting themselves as the Mendocino County, California
“First U.S. Carbon Neutral Winery” Parducci has released their 2005 Sustainable Red. The wine is a laundry list blend of California favorites such as Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah, Zin and even a touch of Viognier.
The winery is solar powered, they farm organically (or are in the process of converting), they use sustainable packaging and they even recycle on site. While many wineries in California are operating in a similar fashion, it seems Parducci is the first to do the math and claim credit.
All the “eco-carbon-greeness” aside, what really matters is how this wine tastes. It has the earthiness of a good organic wine and the fruit is really bright. It’s a lighter red, perfect for summer drinking. While this may not be the Tesla Roadser of “Green Wines” we feel it fits more into the Prius category.
Drink with pizza, pasta with red sauce or after you replace all of your light bulbs with the energy efficient kind this weekend.
