Pimp Wines for Your Date: The Girl

Staff writer and bartender Jessie Pray gives essential advice to longtime Second Glass fan, but website newcomer, Jarrett, on how to setup his apartment for a hot date.

Tricks to Mastering Dinner Date Wines:

  1. Start with a half bottle of bubbly, preferably Champagne. This will be the most expensive thing you purchase all night, but starting off classy is key. We suggest a half bottle of the NV Perrier Jouët Grand Brut. This will run you about $30 but it’ll show you’re not afraid to spend a little dough.

  2. When she shows up, make sure the table is set, wine glasses are out and the meal is almost finished cooking. Greet her and offer her a glass of the bubbly.

  3. Tell her to sit down while you finish the last few minutes of preparations. This is when you pop your next bottle. Find something to pair with the food you’re cooking but keep it on the lighter side. Go with a smaller production “boutique” wine. This will save you some cash but also ensure it’s a quality bottle. If you’re not quite sure what to buy, visit a trusted wine store and tell them exactly what you’re making.

    • Red Wine: Unless you already know she loves California Cabs or Zinfandels, keep the red on the lighter side. A Pinot Noir, Washington State Merlot or Côtes du Rhône from France is a great option.

    • White Wine: If you’re cooking chicken, fish or other seafood, white is your go to. Try a German or Alsatian Riesling with chicken or heartier seafood. A New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is a great pairing with shellfish. French Vouvray goes perfectly with chicken. Otherwise a California or French Chardonnay pairs great with creamier dishes.

  4. End with a bottle of dessert wine. While it’s not difficult to track down, not many people drink it on a regular basis, making it somewhat unique. Pair an Italian Brachetto, like the Rosa Regale, with chocolate. Also look for sweet German Rieslings such as Auslese, the famous French dessert wine Sauturne or Canadian Ice Wine.

  1. Or you can play a drinking game with your date! It goes like this: Watch this video and count how many times Jarrett checks out Jessie’s rack. Hint: It’s more than you think!

Also, consider how many times Jarrett is thinking how much he’d rather bang Jessie than his date.

When Jarrett finally realizes the possibility of a threesome with his date and Jessie, chug.

  2. Jessie has an amazing smile and it is sincere. The way that she mixes humor with knowledge makes this videos fun and informative. I hope you continue to create more videos with her……..

I’ve seen her in action at the bar and she really is knowledgeable about the wines and makes suggestions to guests all the time. Smart + attractive = marketable personality.

One thing: music in the back ground…..jazz creates a nice relaxing atmosphere. Save the Berry White CD for the dessert wine course (my favorite is a nice tawny port with a flour less chocolate cake, which is pretty easy to make and you can do it ahead of time). Recipe for seduction: 1 part Barry White, 1 part chocolate, 1 part port or dessert wine, 1 part conversation (focused on her eyes, not her rack), then simmer for 30 minutes and see what happens.

Chateau Ste Michelle Late Harvest Riesling is the nectar of the Gods. If that does not work, consider shaving your head and joining a obscure religious cult.

  3. Jessier Pray, like Lala from Tiki Bar but smarter and hotter

  4. I think I’d prefer Prosecco. Champagne sounds more like, hey, I’m celebrating the fact that I actually got a date. Maybe with a bit of cassis to show off your worldliness. But that’s just me.
