The Wine Spies: Black Ops of the Wine World

Everyday the Wine Spies website sell a single wine at a discounted price. The site is spy themed and all shipping boxes are stamped “top secret,” making the benign task of ordering online seem adventurous.

They also offer great deals on wines from top California vineyards. Based out of Los Angeles, Agent Red, Agent White Agent Sparkle and Agent Blush work with wineries to get a bulk discount on one specific wine. The, operating like Woot.com, they offer the bottle for sale on their website for only 24 hours.

Most of the bottles fall into the $20-$40 price range but a few bucks is always knocked off. The Spies also do a good job on their recon work, offering large amounts of information about the wine of the day.

All in all, this a great idea with an even better theme. It just sucks for those of us who live in the following states because they can’t ship to us: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee and Utah.

This is due to the arcane and Draconian laws that are still on the books in each state. The Wine Spies even help point customers to an organization trying to do something about this possibly unconstitutional set of laws. Visit Free the Grapes or contact your state representative.
