What is this?Seriously - what is this? It was in the Italian white wine section, but it looked more like a dark rose or possibly a VERY light pinot. No, it tasted like a rose with tannins. What is this wine? It’s from Italy but it has German written on the bottle. We’ll look into it and then get back to you. In the mean time, check this bottle out.

2006 Griesbauerhof, Sudtirol St. Magdalener Classico

We found it at Bauer Wine and Spirits for $15.

UPDATE:

I spoke with Ilene, from Adonna Imports and she cleared some things up. The wine is 100% Schiave (also known as Vernatsch). It’s a red wine (possibly misplaced in the store) and comes from the Alto Adige region near the city of Bolzano. There is more info here and here. It’s grown by a husband and wife and the farm has been in their family since the late 1800s. Their farm is “pretty close to organic” as they only treat the vines when absolutely necessary. This is a great little wine and I suggest you pick one up.
