Last night I went to Diablo Glass School in Mission Hill to sip some French wine and watch glass artists blow some Venetian wine goblets and a massive glass sculpture. The event is part of a regular series the Diablo Glass School puts on, which invites people to come see what the school is all about. Classes are available to the general public and as many people stated during the course of the evening, glass blowing isn’t as hard as it looks. Yes, to master the art it can take you a life time but you can jump into the basics and start making stuff after a few short weeks.
Cool! All of this plus we sampled about a dozen wines with Terroir Wine’s President, Josh Eaton. He brought a collection of Burgundy and Bordeaux for sampling. Some favorites of the evening were the ‘05 Calvet Reserve Sauvignon Blanc ($15), the ‘03 Chateau Saint Germain Bordeaux (only $16!) and the ‘05 Chateau Leboscq ($25). We finished the evening with the spectacular ‘03 Chateau Patris ($59), which according to Josh recently beat out Petrus in a blind tasting! That makes the $60 price tag sound cheap as you could buy 3 cases of this for the price a single bottle of Petrus. More details to come on this Bordeaux showdown.
Future events at the glass school are planned for May 3rd and June 14th.
