About Us
The Second Glass is a print and online wine magazine. Our mission is to demystify wine and help everyone from the occasional drinker to the everyday buyer further explore the world of wine. We will empower, you, the reader by enriching your knowledge of different regions, styles and techniques. Our goal is not to critique wine but explain the world of wine in a down-to-earth and humorous tone.
It is our firm belief that good wine is not just for the elite. Good wine, like good food is available to everyone, only the industry has become overly complicated and very pretentious.

Tyler Balliet
Publisher, CEO
Tyler was born and raised in Madison, WI then attended The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA. After graduating in 2003 he traveled the United States and Europe, living for close to a year in a tiny town in rural France. It was here he decided, inexpensive but totally awesome wine was a good idea. In May of 2005 Tyler moved to Boston and got a job in a wine store. In the store he learned about non-French wine what not paying full retail value was all about. In August of 2006, while flipping through the latest copy of Wine Spectator on a particularly slow evening in the store, the idea for an unpretentious wine magazine hit him. After a three months, a few Craig’s List ads, a couple dozen meetings and hundreds of phone calls later, The Second Glass was born.

Ari Friedland
Lord Photography
Ari is from White Plains, NY and is currently attending Boston University, pursuing his PhD in Biomedical Engineering. This makes him our legit scientist, so we can “officially” perform semi-scientific research in the comfort of our homes. Ari enjoys cooking, tending his plants and totally kicking ass on the weekends. There is no match for his new camera, as it can see spots on the sun, radioactive debris lurking in the air and it has the power to free Leonard Peltier, if it so chooses.

Ross Evans
Advertising Manager
Ross grew-up in the wooded Green Mountains of Vermont and now resides in Boston’s Roslindale Village burrow. Since graduating from college in 2003 Ross has held various positions in sales and marketing for multiple international companies and currently holds the posts of Advertising Manager for The Second Glass as well as Director of Marketing for the Two Ten Foundation.
Ross first became interested in wine when, at the age of 16, he made his first trip to the Andalusian region of Spain, where he tasted his first Sherry. Multiple trips back to Europe and many bottles of wine later, Ross still enjoys the intrigue and mystery that waits behind every popped cork.
